A Tyonek man died Saturday after neighbors heard gunshots

Joseph Standifer, 48, died in Tyonek on Saturday. Neighbors heard gunshots and found him wounded, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Troopers said they had received a report of a disturbance involving Standifer and his girlfriend, and that another family member was in the home. Investigators determined the wound was self-inflicted, following a physical altercation.

Standifer's remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office. A cause of death has not been determined.

Next of kin have been notified.
