Kenai man gets more than 14 years for conspiring to traffic fentanyl into Alaska by mail
U.S. District Judge Timothy M. Burgess sentenced Christian James Rodgers, 34, of Kenai, on Tuesday to more than 14 years in federal prison for conspiring to traffic more than four kilograms of fentanyl into Alaska, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Alaska. He had also been charged with attempted distribution and with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Prosecutors call Rodgers a principal fentanyl supplier for the Kenai region. After his arrest, the office said, fentanyl in Kenai became sparse and its price doubled. The office did not say how it measured that.
Prosecutors said Rodgers worked with Helmut Mey and Johnatan Lau-Osuna, both 37 and of Las Vegas, between September 2024 and March 2025. He traveled to Nevada and California to meet them and a source of supply, and obtained fentanyl bearing Sinaloa cartel markings. Parcels of about two kilograms each went north through the U.S. Postal Service. A co-conspirator sent one at Rodgers' instruction, and he mailed another to his own home. One box also held children's books.
Rodgers possessed a firearm in furtherance of the conspiracy, the office said. He had two prior felony convictions in Alaska Superior Court in Kenai for drug and weapons offenses.
