As a co-lead on the SAFE Cattle Act, I am pleased we are considering this bill at today's hearing. Texas has been ground zero for the incursion of this invasive pest into the United States, and we must work to eradicate the problem where it currently exists and prevent its spread to wildlife and livestock throughout the country. Representative Jackson's bill would direct the Secretaries of Agriculture and Interior to work together to establish a memorandum of understanding to eradicate the New World Screwworm and prevent its spread on federal lands.
