Wind Advisory keeps Isabel Pass dangerous through Thursday evening

Gusts up to 60 mph are forecast through Isabel Pass on the Richardson Highway until 7 PM Thursday. The National Weather Service Fairbanks extended the Wind Advisory through Thursday evening, covering the Eastern Alaska Range north and south of Trims Camp.

South winds of 25 to 40 mph are expected, with frequent gusts to 60 mph. High-profile vehicles face the greatest risk. The NWS warns that gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects, down tree limbs, and may cause scattered power outages.

A midday lull is temporary. Conditions are expected to pick back up Wednesday evening and remain gusty into Thursday.

Travelers and freight operators should check weather.gov/fairbanks and Alaska 511 at 511.alaska.gov before driving the Richardson Highway through the pass.
