Wind advisory in effect until 7 p.m. for Richardson Highway mileposts 224 to 259

Drivers of high-profile vehicles on the Richardson Highway between mileposts 224 and 259 face potentially difficult driving Tuesday, Aug. 25, under a wind advisory covering the Eastern Alaska Range north of Trims Camp, a zone that also takes in Donnelly Dome and Black Rapids.

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks issued the advisory at 1:52 p.m. AKDT, warning of south winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. It runs until 7 p.m. The advisory was still in effect as of 6:30 p.m.

"Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result," NWS Fairbanks said. Forecasters said winds this strong "can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles," and told drivers to use extra caution.
