Wasilla man cited for motorized vehicle use in Palmer Hay Flats refuge

A 34-year-old Wasilla man was cited after Alaska Wildlife Troopers said he drove a motorized land vehicle inside the Palmer Hay Flats State Game Refuge, according to a dispatch posted Monday.

Troopers contacted the man on Aug. 2 at the Rabbit Slough boat launch. The investigation determined he was operating the vehicle within refuge boundaries, according to the dispatch. He was issued a citation through Palmer Court.

The refuge covers 28,800 acres near Wasilla and was created in 1975. Off-road vehicle use is limited there, allowed only under a general special area permit and under specific seasonal and terrain conditions.

The dispatch reflects only the troopers' account. The citation is an accusation, and the man is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
