Typhoon Dujuan's remnants bring heavy rain, swells and a gale warning to Southeast Alaska this weekend

The remnants of Typhoon Dujuan, which brought a coastal flood warning to western Alaska this week, will push a series of storms into Southeast Alaska this weekend, the National Weather Service in Juneau said. Expect heavy swells, rounds of moderate to heavy rain and gale-force wind along part of the Gulf coast.

Friday stays dry, mostly sunny and cool. The first storm reaches the panhandle late Friday night and continues into Saturday. A second arrives Sunday.

Mariners will see the worst of it. A gale warning is in effect from 1 am to 6 pm Saturday for the coast from Icy Cape to Cape Suckling, west of Yakutat, with east winds up to 35 knots, gusts to 45 and seas to 14 feet. Small craft advisories cover the rest of the outer coast from 10 pm Friday to 6 pm Saturday.

The heaviest rain is expected in the northern panhandle on Sunday and in the southern panhandle on Monday. Forecasters said the risk of flooding is lower because the storms should keep moving rather than stall.

Isolated thunderstorms are possible along the Gulf coast and in the southern panhandle as colder air moves in, though forecasters said they aren't confident in that part of the forecast.
