The public dock at King Salmon Airport would stay open five more years

The public boat and floatplane dock at King Salmon Airport would stay open under the Bristol Bay Borough for another five years under an extension the state is proposing.

The state leases the borough about half an acre for the ramp, dock and parking, at $5,784 a year, for public use. Fueling and fuel storage aren't allowed. The extension would run through September 2030.

The state can renew a lease like this without putting the land out for competing bids, an exception to the general rule that no one can be shut out of equal use of an airport. To do it, the state has to find that the borough is keeping to its lease, that continued public use fits airport policy, and that the renewal serves the state's interest.

Written comments are due by 4:30 pm Sept. 27, to Statewide Aviation Leasing in Juneau. The state will send its decision only to those who comment.
