Public ramp at King Salmon Airport would stay with Bristol Bay Borough five more years; comments close September 27

Public access to the boat and floatplane ramp and dock at King Salmon Airport would stay with the Bristol Bay Borough five more years, under an extension the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities proposes. Written comments are due by 4:30 p.m. September 27.

Lease ADA-50740 covers about 25,041 square feet at $5,784.47 a year. It allows a ramp and dock for aircraft and boats plus parking, all for the use and benefit of the general public. Fueling and fuel storage are prohibited. The extension would expire September 1, 2030.

The department filed under AS 02.15.090(c), which lets it grant such an extension without opening the land to competing bids. A 2024 Alaska Office of Administrative Hearings recommended decision called it an exception to the principle that the public may not be deprived of equal use of an airport. The statute requires three findings: the lessee is complying with its lease, continued use fits written airport operation policies, and it is in the state's best interest.
