Atlas Air would get five more acres of cargo ramp in Anchorage

Atlas Air would get three more cargo parking pads at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport under a proposal the state transportation department put out Monday.

The three pads, designated P1, P2 and P3, come to about 224,120 square feet, a little over five acres of ramp. The carrier could use them for parking, fueling, loading and unloading, ground handling and routine line maintenance. Rent would run $38,847.47 a month, or $2.08 per square foot a year.

They would be added to an arrangement the department proposed in 2024 covering three other pads, R7, R8 and R9, about 199,574 square feet at $1.94 per square foot.

The notice contradicts itself on timing. It describes a six-month term beginning Oct. 1, 2026, and also says the term ends March 31, 2026. The notice does not reconcile the two dates, though the 2024 proposal set an option period running to March 31, 2027.

Atlas Air's footprint at the airport is considerably larger than the ramp. The carrier separately holds a 55-year lease running to 2079 on 2.96 million square feet in the West Airpark, roughly 68 acres, to build its own aircraft parking positions.
