State Department awards Anchorage-based Koniag subsidiary $154,464 for inspector general audit support

The U.S. Department of State will pay Koniag Professional Services of Anchorage $154,464 for administrative support to the audit division of its Office of Inspector General. The work is in Arlington, Virginia. The order, numbered 19AQMM26F7179, was competed among 8(a) firms under simplified acquisition procedures and runs from Sept. 30, 2026, through Sept. 29, 2027.

The State Department has issued other awards to the firm, including a $314,270 order for writer and editor work in the inspector general's front office, plus inspection support and investigations-office executive and hotline support.

Koniag Professional Services is an SBA-certified 8(a) firm, a designation for disadvantaged small businesses, owned by Koniag Inc., the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act regional corporation for Alutiiq shareholders.

The U.S. Government Accountability Office told Congress in 2019 it found "persistent weaknesses" in SBA's monitoring of ANC-owned 8(a) firms across three reports since 2006. It also said SBA had since taken steps on many of its recommendations.
