Smokejumpers contained the McCloud Fire at one acre, and found a lost person during the initial attack

Eight smokejumpers who parachuted in to fight a wildfire west of Fox this week found a lost person during the initial attack, and got them to safety. After notifying troopers, the crew escorted the person to medical assistance.

The McCloud Fire, which the jumpers and later a six-member crew from Southwest Alaska worked to contain, was held to a single acre and controlled Thursday afternoon. It was first spotted from an aircraft Wednesday, burning about 12.5 miles west of Fox and 6.5 miles north of Ester Dome, in black spruce. No structures were threatened, and the division did not give a cause.
