Seats still open in two Juneau outdoor skills classes, Aug. 29 and Sept. 13

Six seats remain in a $25 wilderness survival class in Juneau on Saturday, Aug. 29, and seven in a $58 Basic Handgun class on Sunday, Sept. 13, according to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game's Alaskans Afield program. Both remained open for registration Friday.

Both are open to ages 12 and older and meet at the Juneau Hunter Education Shooting Complex Indoor Range, 5670 Montana Creek Road. Handgun students under 18 need Hunter Education Certification and an adult registered with them.

The survival class runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and covers what to bring and what to do when a trip unexpectedly turns into a night outside.

The handgun class runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and covers safe gun handling rules, ammunition selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, range rules, and shooting from various positions. Participants may bring their own handgun, up to .45ACP, with 100 rounds.
