Sitka to close Lincoln Street near St. Michael's Cathedral for water line work

Drivers and walkers crossing downtown Sitka will need another route for 11 days next month. The City and Borough of Sitka will close part of Lincoln Street to through traffic from Monday, Oct. 5, through Thursday, Oct. 15, to install a water line.

The work zone sits near 236 and 237 Lincoln Street, next to St. Michael's Orthodox Cathedral. Traffic heading toward downtown from the east will detour via Maksoutoff Street. Traffic approaching from the west will detour via American Street. Pedestrians will also be routed around the construction.

The city asks motorists and pedestrians to use caution, allow extra travel time and follow posted detour signs. Its notice includes a closure map.
