Sedan passenger seriously hurt in Knik Goose Bay Road crash in Wasilla

A sedan passenger suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash Saturday night on Knik Goose Bay Road in Wasilla, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers from the Palmer post responded at 10:23 p.m. Sept. 26 to the intersection of South Knik Goose Bay Road and West Carmel Road, according to trooper dispatch AK26096267. An initial investigation found that a sedan entered the path of an oncoming truck, troopers said. The dispatch does not describe the truck occupants' condition or name anyone involved. The investigation is ongoing. No charges have been announced.

The state designated Knik Goose Bay Road a Safety Corridor in 2009, and a 2022 state fact sheet put its fatal crash rate at nearly four times the national average. A 2022 state audit found fatal crashes had risen on the road and the Seward Highway since designation while falling 16 percent overall. The corridor was shortened in 2024 and now runs from milepost 4.5 to 17.2.
