Republican super PAC reports $410,000 spent in Alaska Senate race

A national Republican super PAC that has committed $17 million to Alaska's U.S. Senate race has reported $410,002 in independent expenditures so far.

Federal Election Commission reports show Senate Leadership Fund spent $327,969 supporting Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan and $82,033 opposing Democratic challenger Mary Peltola. Super PACs may raise and spend without limit but may not coordinate with a candidate.

The group's advertisements accuse Peltola of voting against military pay raises and veterans' benefits. Peltola voted against the House version of the fiscal 2024 defense authorization bill, which she said contained partisan amendments. After the House and Senate negotiated a final compromise, she voted for that version which became law.

An AARP survey of 800 likely Alaska voters, conducted Sept. 8 through 11 by Fabrizio Ward and Impact Research, found Peltola leading 46% to 41% on the initial ballot and 53% to 47% after a simulated ranked-choice count. The survey's margin of sampling error was 3.5 percentage points.

The $17 million is a spending commitment, not money already reported to the FEC. The filings reviewed for this article document $410,002 through the latest available reports.
