Overturned truck closes Parks Highway at Milepost 183
An overturned commercial truck closed the Parks Highway in both directions at Milepost 183 early Tuesday, blocking both lanes, according to Alaska 511 alerts from the state Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.
Milepost 183 is about 14 miles north of Hurricane, where the highway crosses the Alaska Railroad at Milepost 169, and about 6 miles north of Honolulu Hill, according to 2018 department project documentation.
The closure began at 12:57 am and was expected to last several hours, the department said. It told drivers in the Anchorage, Denali, Fairbanks and Mat-Su regions to avoid the area.
The Parks Highway is the main road route between Anchorage and Fairbanks. Local and commercial trucks use it year-round, and traffic grows through the summer, according to the project documentation.
The alerts didn't say whether anyone was hurt, what caused the crash or who was driving. Current road conditions are posted at Alaska 511.
