One goat fills the quota, and a whole hunting zone closes for the season

It took a single animal. Mountain goat hunting in the Point Windham zone of Unit 1C closes at 11:59 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, after one male goat was taken, filling the area's entire season quota of one. Anyone holding an RG013 registration permit who wants to hunt there has until Saturday night.

That one-animal quota is the whole story. The pocket of country north of Windham Bay, hemmed by Spruce Creek and the arms of Endicott and Holkham Bay, holds so few goats that Fish and Game says it can support the harvest of just one goat point or one animal a year. One hunter fills that, and the zone is done until next season. As of Friday, one male goat had been taken.

This isn't a fluke of a season, either. Fish and Game closed the same Point Windham sub-area in early September 2025 after exactly one male goat was harvested, hitting the same one-animal quota. It's the third Region 1 goat closure this season, alongside South Baranof in Unit 4 and a stretch of Unit 5A near Yakutat.

The rest of the RG013 hunt and all other Unit 1C goat rules are unchanged.
