Oil spill on O'Connell Bridge lane to Harbor Drive prompts Sitka cleanup

City and Borough of Sitka crews are cleaning oil from the O'Connell Bridge lane leading to Harbor Drive. The cleanup is underway now, and the city is asking drivers to stay clear of the area if they can.

Drivers who must pass through should expect delays, the city said in a public service announcement. Motorists are asked to slow down, use caution and follow all signage and the directions of crews on site.

The city did not say what caused the oil to reach the roadway or how long the work will take. An update will be provided when the area is clear and normal traffic can resume.
