The National Weather Service in Fairbanks extended a dense fog advisory overnight for the Fairbanks Metro Area, Eielson Air Force Base, Salcha, Goldstream Valley, Nenana Hills and the Tanana Flats. The advisory, first issued Tuesday evening to run until 1 am, is now in effect until 7 am Wednesday.

Forecasters expect visibility of a quarter mile or less. Low visibility could make travel hazardous, the agency said. "If traveling, slow down and leave plenty of distance ahead of you," the advisory said.

Fog will remain in areas Wednesday morning and gradually burn off, according to the advisory. Forecasters also called for freezing fog Wednesday morning and said the fog will gradually improve as a front lifts north over the Alaska Range.

Light snow and fog had already settled over Fairbanks on Tuesday, according to the agency's daily climate report. NWS Fairbanks said on social media that a low-lying stratus deck "has remained anchored in place across large parts of" the Fairbanks North Star Borough.

High temperatures Wednesday are expected around 40 degrees. Chances of rain and snow begin Thursday afternoon.
