Marijuana board chair's own store violation goes before the board they chair Sept. 2

Alaska Marijuana Control Board Chair Bailey Stuart faces recommended discipline on their own retail license at the Anchorage meeting they are set to chair Wednesday. Stuart is chief operations officer of Green Jar LLC.

AMCO issued notice of violation AM26-1633 on July 15 over an overhead door left unlocked after exterior concrete work, a security standard under state regulation. The violation carries a $100 fine. The licensee accepted responsibility, and Stuart asked that the notice be downgraded. AMCO Director Kevin Richard recommends the board vacate the notice and reduce it to an advisory notice.

The agenda does not indicate whether Stuart will step aside. Ethics rules require a member to declare a conflict on the record, but leave abstaining to the member. The chair normally rules on members' conflicts. For a chair, the governor does.
