Low water slows Seward's youth coho fishery, open through Oct. 5

The youth-only coho fishery at Seward Lagoon was supposed to close Sept. 7. It now runs through Oct. 5, because the fishing has been poor and the reason is not the fish.

Low water has kept the silvers from getting into the lagoon. More than 250 have passed the Bear Creek weir, so they are there. Fish and Game is counting on rain to bring them in.

Anglers 15 and younger can fish the lagoon and the stream running out of it, one hook, bait allowed, two coho a day. Nobody 16 or older can fish it at all, which is the point of the place. The fish are stocked for the taking, and the lagoon is not used to gather hatchery broodstock.
