Lake Clark subsistence commission meets Oct. 3 in Port Alsworth

The nine-member Lake Clark National Park Subsistence Resource Commission will review federal wildlife regulations at its fall meeting Saturday, Oct. 3, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Port Alsworth Improvement Corporation Building, 1 Flight Line Road, following a noon community luncheon. The notice sets aside time for public testimony, written or spoken.

The commission advises the Park Service under the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act; it does not set rules.

Subsistence sockeye makes up more than 60% of all fish and wildlife taken by Port Alsworth and Nondalton residents, and Port Alsworth households harvest nearly 88 pounds per person annually, a Lake Clark National Park environmental assessment says.

Residents of Iliamna, Lime Village, Newhalen, Nondalton, Pedro Bay and Port Alsworth, along with people living inside the park, qualify for subsistence uses under federal rules.
