Kenai weighs more money for the Senior Center canopy roof project

The Kenai City Council takes up more money for the Senior Center canopy roof on Wednesday, and the agenda does not say how much.

The job has been growing. A Council on Aging Commission plan in November 2024 put the canopy alone at $50,000. The work was later bundled with the animal control shelter roof into a $396,370 contract with Orion Construction, and the council unanimously passed an emergency ordinance adding $110,000 to that contract. Substantial completion is due Oct. 31.

The ordinance up Wednesday would raise both estimated revenues and appropriations in the general fund and in the Senior Center capital project fund.

The same meeting carries a library-code ordinance, two police interceptors, a design contract for the city's water and sewer control system, and student representative confirmations. It starts at 6 pm, and residents who want to comment remotely have to register for Zoom in advance.
