Kenai council to vote Sept. 2 on FAA-funded airport perimeter fence contract

Kenai plans to upgrade the security fence around its municipal airport, including replacing gates, under an ordinance the City Council takes up Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 6 pm. The measure would accept a Federal Aviation Administration grant and award the construction contract, and the council could introduce and adopt it in the same meeting.

Airport perimeter fences are federally regulated security infrastructure, meant to keep the public out of aircraft and secured areas, and the FAA typically funds these upgrades through its airport grant program. Kenai's fence has to meet FAA and Transportation Security Administration standards.

The item goes to a public hearing, so residents can testify before the vote. The agenda lists neither the grant amount nor the contractor in line for the work.
