Kenai Council on Aging reviews 2026 goals at Sept. 10 work session

Kenai Senior Center will hold two weeks of food in reserve for seniors under an emergency plan the Kenai Council on Aging Commission has recommended the City Council adopt. The Emergency Operations Plan, along with a companion Continuity of Operations Plan, is designed to keep meals and wellness checks running through a disruption.

The center stores enough food to serve 60 to 70 people a day for two weeks, plus shelf-stable meals for 50 clients. In September 2021, it distributed emergency buckets to about 200 seniors.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates from 2023 counted 831 of Kenai's 7,562 residents, or 10.9%, as 65 or older.

The commission will review its 2026 goals at a work session set for 3:05 p.m. Sept. 10, or immediately after its regular meeting begins at 3 p.m. at the Kenai Senior Center. Members are scheduled to elect a vice chair and approve July 9 minutes before the work session opens. Center director Kathy Romain will give the introduction. Public comment is limited to three minutes. The commission's next meeting is Oct. 8.

The Airport Commission will meet at 6 p.m. Sept. 10 at City Hall to discuss the 2026 runway reconstruction project and storm water pollution prevention.
