Kenai Council on Aging reviews 2026 goals at Sept. 10 work session

The Kenai Senior Center would hold two weeks of food in reserve for seniors under an emergency plan the city's Council on Aging Commission has recommended the City Council adopt.

The center already stocks enough to serve 60 to 70 people a day for two weeks, plus shelf-stable meals for 50 clients. It has done this before: in September 2021 it handed out emergency food buckets to about 200 seniors.

The plan, and a companion continuity plan, are meant to keep meals and wellness checks going if something disrupts normal operations. About 11 percent of Kenai's roughly 7,500 residents are 65 or older.

The commission takes up its 2026 goals at a work session Sept. 10, following its regular meeting at the senior center.
