Inmate accused of assaulting officer at Fairbanks Correctional Center

A correctional officer at the Fairbanks Correctional Center was assaulted early Sunday by an inmate already held there, Alaska State Troopers say.

Troopers went to the jail at about 12:15 a.m. on Sept. 20 after a report that an assault had already happened. The investigation found that Maya Hernandez-Mullen, who was being held there on an earlier unrelated charge, assaulted the officer inside the facility, according to the trooper dispatch, case AK26093530. Troopers have forwarded charges.

The dispatch does not say whether the officer was injured. Troopers note that charges are accusations and that defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
