Inmate charged in Spring Creek assault that seriously injured another inmate

An inmate at Spring Creek Correctional Center suffered serious physical injury in an assault at the Seward prison on July 26 that also caused significant property damage, the Alaska Department of Public Safety said.

Charges came at the conclusion of the investigation, nearly a month later. On Aug. 24, Lloyd Luke, 43, of Fairbanks, was charged with second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault and third-degree criminal mischief. Spring Creek staff reported the assault the day it happened, and investigators identified Luke as the attacker, according to the dispatch, logged as case AK26072307. Luke remains incarcerated at Spring Creek. The charges are accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Spring Creek is Alaska's maximum-security prison for men.

The dispatch does not say how the injured inmate is now, a month after an assault that caused serious physical injury, or when Luke is scheduled to appear in court.
