Fish and Game offers women's concealed carry course in Fairbanks Oct. 24-25
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game's Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program will hold a concealed carry course Oct. 24 and 25 at the Fairbanks Hunter Education Indoor Shooting Range. The class costs $215 and requires Hunter Education Certification. Registration is open now at the program's events schedule.
Sessions run from 10 am to 6 pm Saturday and 9 am to 1 pm Sunday. The course listing says participants will earn an Alaska concealed carry permit. Firearms are provided, or participants may bring their own.
Permits require an application to the state Department of Public Safety. Applicants must be at least 21, Alaska residents for more than 90 days and legally eligible to possess a firearm. They must have finished an approved handgun competency course within the past 12 months and submit a fingerprint, a photograph and a competency-course certificate.
The program also lists a Handgun Fit and Foundations class Oct. 26, wilderness first aid Nov. 5 and 6, a hunter education class Nov. 21 and a December beaver fur mitten sewing class. Registration for the mitten class opens Oct. 26 at 9 am.
