Fatal crash at Glenn Highway S Curves kills two, closes corridor Thursday morning

A multi-vehicle crash at the Glenn Highway S Curves killed two people and sent a child to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Thursday morning, closing the main commuter corridor between the Mat-Su Valley and Anchorage for several hours.

A Ford F150 crossed the median from the northbound lanes at about 8 a.m., striking a GMC Acadia, a Ford Explorer, and a Kia Soul. "The driver of the F150 and the driver of the Kia Soul were declared deceased at the scene," APD said. "The Kia Soul also had a juvenile passenger, who was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries."

APD's update did not cite adverse weather or road conditions as factors. Emergency crews arrived just before 8:30 a.m. Southbound lanes were closed between the Hiland exit and Muldoon while the APD Major Collision Investigation Unit worked the scene. All lanes later reopened.
