Every Juneau ballot seat drew a candidate as filing closed

Juneau's ballot for the Oct. 6 municipal election is taking shape, and none of the five open seats is going uncontested.

Filing closed Monday afternoon for three Assembly seats — one areawide, one in District 1, one in District 2 — and two Board of Education seats, each a three-year term. Every one drew at least one candidate.

Among those who filed letters of intent with the state ahead of the deadline were Joyce Niven, David Morris, and Paul Kelly, all for Assembly runs. A letter of intent is a campaign-finance step, not a spot on the ballot; certification comes separately, and candidates have until 4:30 p.m. Friday to withdraw.

The ballot won't be final until the clerk certifies who filed complete paperwork. Once that list posts, Juneau voters will know their choices for a slate of seats that steer the borough's budget, schools, and services for the next three years.
