Eagle River man, 72, dies after falling overboard on Talkeetna River

Charles Kolb, 72, of Eagle River died Thursday after falling overboard from a boat on the Talkeetna River, Alaska Wildlife Troopers said.

Another person in the boat got Kolb to a nearby sandbar and performed lifesaving measures for about 40 to 50 minutes until emergency medical crews arrived, according to the troopers' report. Medics continued the effort and took Kolb to the Talkeetna boat launch to wait for a medevac. A doctor at the scene pronounced him dead at about 6:40 pm, before the medevac arrived.

The State Medical Examiner's Office is investigating his death.
