Cordova's Streets Department closed the corner of 4th Street and Browning Avenue on Thursday to repair the road, police said in a Facebook post that morning. The post didn't say how long the work would take or give a detour.

About an hour earlier, police said the Water Department would shut off the water main that day to fix "a leak on W. Davis and 4th Street." Homes on 3rd and 4th streets could be affected, but the shutoff was expected to last no more than an hour, the post said. Neither post says the two jobs are connected.

The same stretch of 4th Street was dug up last week. The city closed it between Browning and Council avenues starting Oct. 29 to dig up and fix a water leak, sending drivers around on Davis Avenue.

The city's water and sewer department is heading into next year a worker short. The draft 2027 budget funds five full-time jobs instead of six, and the department's longtime superintendent retires Dec. 31, the public works director told the City Council last month.
