Begich's office says casework returned more than $3 million to Alaskans
Rep. Nick Begich's office said Wednesday that it has returned more than $3 million to Alaskans through federal casework since he took office in January 2025.
Casework is the help a congressional office gives people who are stuck with a federal agency. The office said its work covers veterans' benefits, Social Security, IRS matters and passport delays.
"I'm proud to announce that our constituent services team has now returned over $3 million to Alaskans who were waiting on benefits, tax refunds, and other federal payments," Begich said in the Oct. 28 press release.
The release does not break the total down by agency or say how many cases it covers. It quotes five constituents. One got nearly $12,000 back. Another had a long-standing military retirement pay problem resolved. The others had help getting mail delivery resumed, fixing a Social Security issue and changing the names of adopted children.
The total has grown in steps. The office reported more than $460,000 returned and more than 100 cases closed in Begich's first 100 days. In a Dec. 29, 2025, release, it reported more than $1 million returned.
Begich said in the release that helping Alaskans navigate the federal government is an important responsibility of a congressional office and that his team wants all Alaskans to know they have a resource in his office.
Alaskans can request help with a federal agency through Begich.House.gov.
