BBNC sets Oct. 2 deadline for Bristol Bay Leadership Forum proposals

Anyone with an idea about what Bristol Bay's leaders should discuss in December has until Oct. 2 to submit it.

Bristol Bay Native Corporation is accepting proposals for main stage presentations and breakout sessions at the 2026 Bristol Bay Leadership Forum, scheduled for Dec. 10-11 in Anchorage. The deadline is 5 p.m. Alaska time. If sessions remain unfilled, BBNC will keep taking proposals on a rolling basis until all workshops are filled.

Sessions should run 30 to 60 minutes and include time for audience participation or questions.

The forum has run for more than four decades. Participants come from village corporations, village and city councils, boroughs and community organizations to discuss current and emerging regional priorities, according to BBNC's notice. Presenters from outside Bristol Bay may also apply.

BBNC said it is seeking "solutions-focused," "community-centered" sessions "rooted in Bristol Bay values, challenges, and opportunities" that speak to issues important to shareholders and the broader community.

The forum is corporate-led. Tribal councils in the region are organized separately through Bristol Bay Native Association, a nonprofit consortium of 31 tribes. Some Bristol Bay tribal governments hold that regional governance should remain grounded in tribal sovereignty and community-led processes, a stance that can be strained by corporate-led forums.

BBNC is governed by a 12-member board of directors elected by shareholders.

Applications for the 2026 Bristol Bay Youth Leadership Forum, open to Bristol Bay School District students and BBNC shareholders and descendants in grades 9-12, are due Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. BBNC will also host a career fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 3 at Bristol Bay Borough School in Naknek, alongside its annual meeting.
