AVCP runs basketball camp in Toksook Bay, beading workshop in Anchorage
AVCP Tribal Child Welfare is running youth programming this month, with a free basketball camp scheduled for June 4–5 in Toksook Bay and a cultural workshop set for Anchorage on June 12.
AVCP is a Bethel-based tribal consortium representing 56 federally recognized tribes in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. Under the Alaska Tribal Child Welfare Compact, a government-to-government agreement that allows tribal consortia to assume specified child welfare responsibilities, the organization delivers intervention, legal representation, and prevention activities.
The basketball camp runs Thursday and Friday at Nelson Island School in Toksook Bay, open to students entering grades 5 through 12. AVCP partnered with ND42, a basketball training organization, to deliver the camp from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days.
On June 12, AVCP will host a beading and weaving workshop in Anchorage from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., focused on strengthening family support and connection. Yup'ik gem Helen Paul will lead the session, open to all AVCP tribal members with priority for Kipnuk and Kwigillingok tribal members.
Both events are free.
