Anchorage schedules Oct. 6 hearing on transit-corridor plan

The Anchorage Assembly will hear public testimony Oct. 6 on proposed amendments that would raise housing-density targets in designated Transit-Supportive Development Corridors.

AO 2026-122 would amend the Anchorage 2020 - Anchorage Bowl Comprehensive Plan and the 2040 Land Use Plan. The planning draft proposes at least 25 homes per acre in one passage and an average of at least 36 homes per acre in several transit-corridor policies, replacing older references to 8 to 20 homes per acre.

The measure changes planning documents. It is separate from AO 2026-85, a proposed zoning overlay that addresses which housing types and building standards would be allowed. Approving the plan amendments would not by itself enact all of the zoning changes.

The hearing begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, in the Assembly Chambers at the Z.J. Loussac Library. Written and phone testimony is due by 5 p.m. Oct. 5. People may testify in person without signing up in advance.
