Anchorage police arrest a man on felony weapons and assault charges after a shooting
Anchorage police arrested a 23-year-old Anchorage man Thursday on felony weapons and assault charges after a shooting that injured another man, according to a department release.
Officers were called at about 12:21 Thursday to reports of shots fired near Cordova Street and East 2nd Avenue, on the east side of downtown, the release said. It didn't say whether that was a.m. or p.m. Officers found the victim, an adult man, at Bragaw Street and Mountain View Drive in Mountain View. His injuries are not life-threatening, police said.
Shortly after, police found a vehicle that had crashed in the 300 block of Concrete Street. The people inside were identified as suspects in the shooting, and a man was arrested on multiple charges, the department said.
Court records list four felony charges against him, all dated Thursday. The most serious is first-degree misconduct involving weapons, a class A felony. Under Alaska law, that charge includes firing a gun from a moving vehicle in a way that creates a substantial and unjustifiable risk of injury or property damage.
He also faces two counts of third-degree assault, one for causing injury with a weapon and one for causing fear of serious injury with a weapon, and a count of third-degree misconduct involving weapons, which includes having a gun that can be concealed on one's person after a felony conviction. Those three are class C felonies.
He was arraigned in custody at 2:30 pm Thursday, and an attorney from the Public Defender Agency was appointed, court records show. His next court date is Nov. 12.
Police said the case remains under investigation.
