Bristol Bay corporation's Anchorage arm takes $2.7 million Interior repair order

An Anchorage company will spend $2.7 million stopping water from leaking into the library at the Interior Department's headquarters in Washington.

The General Services Administration awarded the work to CCI Facility Contractors, a subsidiary of Bristol Bay Native Corporation. The job at the Stewart Lee Udall Building runs from late August through October 2027, and came through a governmentwide construction contract competed in 2022 among 76 offers.

It is the largest of four GSA orders to the firm this summer. The others: $2,486,367 for emergency facade repairs at the Harry S. Truman Building, $724,096 to replace an overhang at the Cotton Federal Building in Manchester, New Hampshire, and $379,681 for stone repair at the St. Elizabeths campus. The four come to about $6.3 million, and none of the work is in Alaska.

CCI's largest current federal award is $69.2 million, for a substation at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama.

The leaks are part of a much larger bill. GSA has proposed further repair work at the Udall building estimated at $8.87 million, and the Public Buildings Reform Board concluded in March that the agency's deferred maintenance backlog runs roughly $50 billion, more than twice its own highest previous estimate.

Alaska Native regional corporations earn most of their money outside the state. At a Commonwealth North forum in May, Katie Berry of McKinley Research Group put the twelve corporations' 2022 revenue at $13.5 billion, about two-thirds of it earned elsewhere, with $300 million to $350 million a year returning to shareholders through dividends, elder benefits and scholarships.
