Anchorage brewery sells limited Uncle Ted Ale to mark USS Ted Stevens commissioning
49th State Brewing is selling a limited-run blonde ale made with Alaska spruce tips to mark the commissioning of the USS Ted Stevens, a Navy destroyer named for Alaska's late senator.
The Anchorage brewery said Monday that cans of Uncle Ted Ale are almost gone. The beer is sold at 49th State's downtown Anchorage pub at 717 W. Third Ave. while supplies last.
The brewery's online menu lists a 12-ounce can for $4 and a four-pack for $10.99. The beer is a 5.2% blonde ale, according to the brewery's Untappd listing.
The can carries a portrait of Stevens and a label identifying the beer as a blonde ale with Alaska spruce tips. The ship appears behind it in the brewery's announcement photo, taken during the commissioning ceremony.
The Navy commissioned the guided-missile destroyer in Whittier on Oct. 3, as Alaska News reported that day. It is a Flight III Arleigh Burke-class destroyer and will be homeported in Norfolk, Virginia, the Navy said before the ceremony.
It is the first Navy ship named for Ted Stevens, who represented Alaska in the U.S. Senate from December 1968 until January 2009. He died in 2010.
