An Eagle River man is accused of feeding bears, which can get them killed

A 48-year-old Eagle River man is accused of intentionally feeding black bears. Wildlife officials warn the practice can turn bears into a public safety risk that often ends with the bears themselves being killed.

Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Casey Noveske for feeding the bears and for making false statements on his 2026 resident sport fish license. The citations were issued through the Anchorage Court.

Troopers said the investigation began July 14 and found he was habituating black bears through feeding and close human-wildlife interactions.

The dispatch, posted Aug. 3, notes the charges are accusations, records no response from the man cited, and lists no court date.

In a June 25 post, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers said bears and moose "are wild animals, not zoo animals or pets."
