Alaska takes public input Wednesday on the extra child care subsidy for kids with disabilities
Alaska IN! pays extra subsidy on top of regular child care assistance, and on Wednesday the state takes public input on the rules governing it. "This program provides additional subsidies to eligible families who have children who experience a diagnosed disability or special need," the Department of Health says in its description of the program on the state website. Families must participate in the Child Care Assistance Program and use participating providers to qualify.
The Alaska Child Care Program Office holds the sixth session of its 2026 Community Engagement Series from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, online, taking comment from providers, families and advocates on the application process, eligibility, reporting requirements and accommodations for children with diverse needs and abilities. The announcement this account is based on does not include a link for joining.
A separate rulemaking on the Child Care Assistance Program is also open. The department has proposed raising the income ceiling from 85 percent to 105 percent of state median income and adding a new PASS V category for families in that band. That rulemaking includes a telephonic oral hearing scheduled for Aug. 26 from noon to 1 p.m., in addition to written comments due by 5 p.m. Sept. 14. The state posts rulemaking notices, with the hearing call-in number and the address for written comments, on its Online Public Notice System.
Two more sessions follow, both on rules a reader could still weigh in on: Sept. 9 on licensed child care facility requirements, and Sept. 23 on the Child Care Grant Program. The regulations under discussion are 7 AAC 41 on Wednesday, then 7 AAC 57 and 7 AAC 39.
