Air Force seeks contractor to install communications gear at remote Shemya outpost

Alaska contractors have until 4 p.m. AKST on July 24 to submit quotes for a communications container and tower installation at Eareckson Air Station on Shemya Island, the westernmost U.S. military outpost in the Aleutian chain. The work is valued between $25,000 and $100,000.

The 766th Enterprise Sourcing Squadron at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson issued the request for quotes Friday. The contract falls under NAICS code 237130, which carries a small business size threshold of $45 million. The award goes to the lowest-priced technically acceptable offeror. Contractors may submit only one quote, covering all labor, materials, equipment, freight, and travel. Questions are due by July 22.

The performance window runs July 27 through Aug. 31. The project supports the 611th Civil Engineer Squadron for Army North.

The RFQ includes a base contract line item for the communications container installation and an option line item for the tower. Quotes must remain valid for 60 days after submission.

The upgrade comes as U.S. Indo-Pacific Command leadership has publicly backed investment at Eareckson. In 2025, Adm. Samuel Paparo told the Senate Armed Services Committee he supports upgrading the station as part of a broader response to increased Russian and Chinese military activity in the Pacific.
