Air Force names 2nd Lt. Leah Borsich as airman killed in Cape Newenham crash

All eight people aboard a civilian-contracted aircraft died in the Aug. 20 crash at Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site Airport, about 450 miles west-southwest of Anchorage.

The Eleventh Air Force identified one of them Monday as 2nd Lt. Leah R. Borsich, 23, a project programmer with the 611th Civil Engineer Squadron at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. The command released her name 24 hours after completing next-of-kin notifications, following department policy.

The Security Aviation Cessna 441 went down on approach from Anchorage carrying two pilots and six passengers. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.

Col. Timothy Meerstein of the Pacific Air Forces Regional Support Center said the command also mourns its Army and contractor teammates, and thanked the Security Aviation aircrew, whose "professionalism and dedication are vital to our mission."

Alaska State Troopers will name the victims not affiliated with the Department of War.
