Air Force names 2nd Lt. Leah Borsich as airman killed in Cape Newenham crash

All eight people aboard a civilian-contracted aircraft died in the Aug. 20 crash at Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site Airport, about 450 miles west-southwest of Anchorage. On Aug. 24, the Eleventh Air Force identified one victim as 2nd Lt. Leah R. Borsich, 23, a project programmer with the 611th Civil Engineer Squadron at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating. Earlier reporting said the Security Aviation Cessna 441 went down on approach from Anchorage carrying two pilots and six passengers.

The Eleventh Air Force released Borsich's name 24 hours after completing next-of-kin notifications, following Department of War policy.

"We also mourn the loss of our Army and contractor teammates and extend our deepest appreciation to the Security Aviation aircrew, whose professionalism and dedication are vital to our mission," said Col. Timothey Meerstein of Pacific Air Forces Regional Support Center.

Alaska State Troopers will name the victims not affiliated with the Department of War.
