Outside groups report more than $1.8 million in new Alaska election spending
Americans for Prosperity Action and two other national groups disclosed more than $1.8 million in new independent spending across Alaska's U.S. Senate and state House races in filings received over the weekend.
The largest filing came from Americans for Prosperity Action. Its Oct. 3 federal report listed $1.63 million in expenditures dated Oct. 1 and 2: $932,055.91 opposing Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Mary Peltola and $702,330 supporting Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan.
Most of that money was in two media placements through In Pursuit Of, LLC of Arlington, Virginia: $825,000 against Peltola and $675,000 for Sullivan. The balance covered mail, postage and production.
The filing raised AFP Action's reported general-election spending in the race to $4.42 million. Including about $685,000 spent for Sullivan before the primary, the group has reported about $5.1 million in Alaska Senate expenditures through Oct. 2.
The same network enters six House races
AFP Action's Alaska arm is also spending in legislative races. An Alaska Public Offices Commission report filed Sunday lists a $150,000 contribution from the national organization and $40,629.87 in paid expenditures supporting six Republican state House candidates. It also lists $7,500 owed to Targeted Victory.
The spending supports Harmony Tomaszewski in House District 34, Rep. Julie Coulombe in District 11, Rep. Sarah Vance in District 6, Rep. Mia Costello in District 15, Dan Sager in District 18 and John Boyle in District 9. None of the state expenditures opposes a candidate.
The Alaska group reported mail and digital advertising. In Pursuit Of and Targeted Victory, two vendors named in AFP Action's federal filing, also appear in the state report. The state filing says digital ads are being placed on Meta platforms and through the programmatic advertising service StackAdapt. It does not include the ads themselves.
About $101,870 of the $150,000 contribution remains unreported as spent or owed in the filing.
Another PAC joins spending against Sullivan
Duty and Country, a Washington, D.C., super PAC, reported its first Alaska Senate expenditures in an Oct. 4 federal filing. The group spent an estimated $151,656 opposing Sullivan on Oct. 2, including a $150,000 digital media buy and $1,656 for production through MVAR Media of Alexandria, Virginia.
North Star, another D.C. super PAC, has separately reported about $7.31 million opposing Sullivan this cycle, including $6.3 million for the general election and about $1.01 million before the primary. It has also reported $52,995.11 supporting Peltola. North Star's latest filing added $4,235.75 in production costs against Sullivan.
The new disclosures follow a $1.4 million anti-Sullivan commitment from Protecting Alaska Fishermen, another recently formed super PAC. Its first donor report is not yet due, so its filings do not identify who supplied the money.
The filings establish the amounts, candidates, purposes and vendors reported by the groups. They do not show the complete universe of outside spending in the races, and the federal expenditure notices do not identify the donors financing each committee.
Alaska's general election is Nov. 3.
