A Wainwright corporation will sweep Energy Department offices for bugs

The Energy Department has hired a subsidiary of the village corporation for Wainwright to do technical surveillance countermeasures work, which in plain terms means searching secure government offices for hidden microphones, cameras and transmitters that are not supposed to be there.

The contract, signed Sept. 11, is worth $2.35 million and runs from November 2026 to May 2028. Olgoonik Solutions will provide the technicians, training, inspections and equipment for the office of the associate under secretary responsible for environment, health, safety and security, in Washington, D.C. The record does not say more about what the sweeps involve.

Olgoonik Corporation belongs to the Iñupiat shareholders of Wainwright, a village of several hundred people on the Chukchi Sea coast. Its federal work is not confined to security, or to Alaska. Its largest recent contract is $47.7 million for State Department work in Haiti. Another subsidiary took more than $5.1 million in National Institutes of Health work across three contracts in early September. The Bureau of Land Management is paying it $209,974 for a reclamation project in Wyoming, and FEMA $142,708 to run a fiber line between two buildings in Colorado.
