A Jeep rolled in Nikiski with a 14-year-old inside and the driver was arrested

A Jeep rolled onto its side off Holt Lamplight Road in Nikiski on Tuesday afternoon with a 14-year-old passenger in it. Nobody was hurt.

Alaska State Troopers arrested the driver, a 56-year-old Nikiski man, on charges of driving under the influence and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor that applies to anyone who drives a child while breaking the DUI law. Investigators said he lost control while impaired by alcohol. He was taken to the Wildwood Pretrial Facility.

It is the third arrest in the Nikiski area this summer on that same pair of charges. Troopers arrested a 39-year-old woman after an ATV rollover in July, and a 28-year-old woman after a traffic stop in August with two children in her vehicle.

The charges are accusations, and a defendant is presumed innocent. No case had been filed in the state court system as of Wednesday.
