Child hurt-risk in drunken Nikiski ATV rollover, troopers say

Troopers say a Nikiski woman rolled an ATV with a child aboard while driving at more than twice the legal alcohol limit. She faces DUI and child-endangerment charges.

A child was on the back of an ATV in Nikiski when it rolled Thursday night, and troopers say the woman driving was drunk — with a breath alcohol level more than twice the legal limit.

Alaska State Troopers responded around 10:40 p.m. to the crash near Bastein Drive and Island Lake Road. They arrested a 39-year-old Nikiski woman, who they say was driving the ATV with a child aboard while impaired; a breath test measured her at 0.184, more than double Alaska's 0.08 limit. She faces charges of DUI and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and was taken to the Wildwood Pretrial Facility.

Troopers didn't say how old the child is or whether the child was hurt in the rollover. The charges are accusations, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
