A Craig bakery-cafe wants to pour beer and wine on Friday and Saturday evenings

A bakery-cafe in Craig wants to spend Friday and Saturday evenings as a beer garden. Co-owners Tina Steffen and Betty Isaacs have applied for a license that would let Annie Betty's Bakery-Cafe on Thompson Road serve beer and wine in a fenced area out back, from 4 to 8 pm on those two nights.

The rest of the week the place stays what it is. No alcohol between 7 am and 2 pm any day. The drive-through shuts while the beer garden is open, and no one under 21 would work past 4 pm. "No minors will be allowed in beer garden area without adult supervision," Steffen wrote in the application.

Steffen holds half the cafe partnership. She also owns 51 percent of Craig Bar & Liquor Store Inc., which runs the Hill Bar and Zat's Pizza on the Hill.

The application has been sitting since March 2, six months. Craig has to sign off first on the arrangement that lets one address operate as a restaurant part of the day and a licensed premises the rest, and state records showed the fee for that request still unpaid as of Aug. 25. The Alcoholic Beverage Control Board meets Sept. 1 in Anchorage.
