“Our bill would allow tribes the option to use up to 20% of their homeownership assistance funds to assist families earning up to 120% of area median income. And this matters because we hear from so many, so many families, so many working families, whether they're teachers or healthcare workers, law enforcement officers, essential workers, but the problem is they earn just a little too much. To qualify under current limits, but they still can't afford to buy a home in their community.”

Similar to the flexibilities provided for non-tribal members in the Road to Housing Act, Our bill would allow tribes the option to use up to 20% of their homeownership assistance funds to assist families earning up to 120% of area median income. And this matters because we hear from so many, so many families, so many working families, whether they're teachers or healthcare workers, law enforcement officers, essential workers, but the problem is they earn just a little too much. To qualify under current limits, but they still can't afford to buy a home in their community. So it's these folks that get caught in that awful situation. So rather than have the federal government make that decision for them, our bill gives tribes greater flexibility to decide how to meet their own housing needs.
